Overview
Sitting on the first new platform developed by Lotus since the Elise in 1995, the Lotus Evora was planned as a mid-market 2+2-seater sports car that would have appeal beyond track racers and enthusiasts. The Evora uses a 3.5-litre V6 engine bought in from Toyota, and from 2010 a new model, the Evora S came on stream, the ‘S’ denoting that the engine’s power is boosted by means of an external supercharger. Both models were offered with a choice of manual or automatic six-speed gearboxes.
To mark the arrival of an uprated engine, the Evora 400 was released in 2015, replacing both the original models. Extra kit to boost downforce, a revised interior and a new split rear wing were among the main improvements. The following year, an even more refined version, the Evora Sport 410, emerged, with the tweaked engine producing 10 extra horsepower. As well as having a much lighter lithium-ion battery, many of the body panels were made from carbon fibre. In all, these measures cut nearly 10 per cent off the weight of the original Evora.
