The ‘spiritual successor’ to the classic Jaguar E-Type was launched in 2013 as a signal by new company owner Tata that it wanted to reclaim the company’s place among the hierarchy of producers of high-performance and touring cars. A two-door soft-top was the first version introduced, closely followed by a hard-top coupe, and in 2016, the F-Type SVR, which used a supercharged five-litre V8 engine, came in, soon after becoming the first production Jaguar since the XJ220 to be able to hit 200mph. Jaguar had proposed a follow-on from the E-Type as early as 1982, but the project was scrapped after Ford took the company over. Another false start at the start of the new century saw development work stall when Jaguar’s then-parent company Ford decided to move into F1. A new F-Type model was brought in from 2020, with options of a turbocharged two-litre and two versions fitted with a five-litre supercharged V8 engine. There were also significant internal changes, especially around the dashboard. The driver can choose from 25 different driving modes to suit various road conditions and driving styles.
