Overview
Honda introduced the NSX as a serious attempt to build a high-performance sports car that could rival Ferrari. Indeed, it set the Italian company’s V8 engine as a benchmark when designing its own three-litre V6 power plant for use in this car, hoping that its reputation for reliability would also win over potential customers. Gordon Murray, the designer of the McLaren F1, has even said that he used the NSX as his inspiration, after being impressed by the performance of the Honda chassis, but was not able to convince the Japanese company to build an engine that would do justice to its capabilities. A new-generation NSX came along in 2016, with production transferred from Japan to Honda’s factory in Ohio, USA. Now featuring all-wheel drive and hybrid power from a combination of a 3.5-litre V6 petrol and three electric motors, the car has been a very rare sight in Europe, with just 215 of this model making it to the continent before its replacement by the NSX Type S in 2021.
